UNFPA Lebanon Places Older Adults on World Population Day’s Agenda

Marking World Population Day and in partnership with the Lebanese Family Planning Association, UNFPA Lebanon organized a seminar on the ‘Demographic and Social Impacts of an Increase in Older Adults Population’ on the 16th of July. Sponsored by the Ministry of Social Affairs, the event gathered a wide range of experts, members of the National Population Commission, representatives from municipalities, and other stakeholders. Several media outlets reported on the roundtable. The issue of older adults in Lebanon was addressed comprehensively. Three roundtables discussed demographic projections, socio-economic situation, pension and social security, breakthroughs and gaps in policy and programming. In line with WPD’s global theme, the event highlighted the necessity for population data to constitute the basis for any social, economic or environmental development planning in Lebanon.
