This year’s International Youth Day coincided with the launch of the International Youth Year. To mark this very special occasion, Y-PEERs Lebanon went for high-visibility events. Twice during that week, Y-PEER members participated in animating a one-hour live radio show on Mix FM’s very popular Comedy Revolution. Hosted by the very-Y-PEER-enthusiastic stand-up comedian and animator Nemer Abou Nassar, Y-PEERs made use of their fun and youthful spirit to tackle youth sexual-health taboos and to promote HIV/AIDS prevention information. ‘Is using two condoms safer than using one?’, ‘Can HIV be transmitted by a mosquito bite?’ and many other questions were raised, as a playful approach to dispelling all-too-prevalent myths. The radio show also included a phone competition on HIV/AIDS to encourage the audience to participate, and it did! Numerous calls were received and two prizes offered. In parallel, on August 12th and to accompany the summe mood, 15 Y-PEER members invaded Puncho beach in northern Lebanon with posters and awareness activities to publicize and promote the ABC Prevention Strategy. Y-PEER’s celebration of IYD was relayed in the media and on the blogosphere.
