On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Y-PEER Lebanon organized “Our Health, Our Right... Let’s Take a Stand” a two-day event for raising HIV/AIDS awareness among high school students. The event was organized under the patronage of H.E Minister of Public Health, in partnership with the National AIDS Control Program and with the support of UNFPA Lebanon.
 
More than 800 high school students, boys and girls, aged 15-18 years and belonging to 10 public and private schools from various regions and communities in Lebanon took part in this event.
 
For the occasion, the Y-PEERs partnered with Mr. Tony Baroud, a notorious Lebanese TV and sports celebrity, for animating the event, by adding fun to the celebration and punctuating it with educational messages. On the menu, three main activities:
 
An educational games circuit consisting of a series of interactive games around HIV/AIDS and animated by 8 NGOs member of the network.
A Theatre Performance produced by school students as a product of a Theatre Based Peer Education project conducted by the Y-PEERs in 4 schools.
A dance performance on the rhythms of ‘Let’s fight for change’, a song produced by the Y-PEER network and jointly performed by Maya Nehme, a Star Academy figure, Belime, a rising young star and Nour Nemer, Y-PEER volunteer.
 
An extensive media campaign accompanied the event: feature stories in written press and magazines, Y-PEER hosts in talk shows on national TVs and radios… From December 1st to December 9th, the Y-PEERs became the number one non-governmental source for information on HIV/AIDS and youth in Lebanon and a total of 8 articles, 19 TV announcements and 11 TV and radio talk shows reported on the event.
